The Academy in Westminster, CO set to host instructional baseball camp

October 13, 2014 -- Westminster, CO has a strong baseball foundation. That foundation starts at the youth level, and Westminster has above average youth programs. There are little leagues and travel teams, all showing dedication to America’s Pastime. Furthermore, Westminster has several youth facilities that can only add to the excitement for young players to get out onto the field and play baseball. The Christopher and Tepper Fields facilities are two fields worth noting in the area.

Furthermore, the Colorado Rockies play a short distance from Westminster at Coors Field. The Rockies are a strong organization in a great sports city. With such a strong foundation of youth leagues, and having a prominent Major League team, there is not a question that there is also some strong baseball being played at the high school level.

The Academy is a school with a strong baseball tradition. Most recently, the baseball program made a run at the state tournament. However, even though it is not the time for their season, the head coach has decided to give back to the area by training some of the youth players in the area.

The Academy is set to host a four week baseball camp this winter. This camp is run in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy and features sessions in: hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, and baserunning. Lee Hanger, head coach of The Academy, will direct the program with some of the top coaches in the area.

However, The Academy is not the only new site hosting a camp in 2015. Check out all of the new locations below and find the camp closest to you!

California: Antioch, Bakersfield, Chula Vista, Rio Linda, Woodland Hills

Major League Baseball Post-Season Update

As October continues on, teams get deeper and deeper into the playoffs, and this 2014 post-season has been full of drama. The Kansas City Royals, absent from the playoffs for a long period, are back and are having success. The Royals have already won 4 games in extra inning. Why is that significant? It is significant because the Royals have only played 6 games this post-season. Which by the way, the Royals have lost none of as they have taken a 2-0 lead in the series over the Baltimore Orioles. Late inning heroics are not missed in the other championship series either.

After losing Game 1 to the San Francisco Giants,  the St. Louis Cardinals used some late inning heroics of their own, as Kolten Wong evened the series with a walk-off home run in Game 2. The National League Championship series is heading to San Francisco knotted at one game apiece, while the American League heads to Kansas City,

After Wong’s walk-off home run, you may want to take a look at some of the greatest walk-off home runs in post-season history. Check out this video of these legendary home runs. Click here to watch

As for the Division Series, on the American League side, the Royals swept the number one seed Los Angeles Angels 3-0, and the Baltimore Orioles made quick work of the Detroit Tigers in a three game sweep of their own. The National League series each went four games, with the Giants knocking the top seeded Nationals out. The Cardinals were in a rematch of last year’s Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and there was a similar result. The Cardinals won the series 3-1 to move on.

Germantown to host Instructional Baseball Camp

October 6, 2014, Memphis, TN -- Some people see Tennessee as a football state, and others see Memphis as a basketball city with the Grizzlies. However, baseball is still prominent in Memphis. The Memphis Redbirds hold the title for the professional baseball team in the city. The Redbirds are the triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, and have had recent success. Memphis made the playoffs in the 2014 season and looks to be strong again in 2015. But what about baseball outside of the professional ranks, is it prominent in the Memphis area?

Moving down one level, the Memphis Tigers are a strong baseball program. The Tigers finished with a 30-29 record in 2014, and just like the Redbirds appear to have potential for another strong season. Furthermore, the Memphis program aids in developing youth talent. The university allows travel tournaments to be hosted at their baseball facility each summer, which brings some of the best talent from around the country to the area.

Again, there is even more to baseball in the Memphis area. There are numerous little leagues in the area that help to build a strong baseball foundation at the youth level. However, Germantown High School is helping to develop youth talent in another way.

Germantown High School is hosting a six week instructional baseball camp this winter. This camp, run in conjunction with the U.S. Baseball Academy, will offer sessions in: hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, and baserunning.

However, Germantown High School is not hosting the only camp that will be taking place this winter. U.S. Baseball Academy currently has 235 camps nationwide. The camp in Germantown is just one of the many new sites. Check the list below to see if there is a new location opening near you:

California: Antioch, Bakersfield, Chula Vista, Rio Linda, Woodland Hills

Colorado: Fountain, Westminster

Georgia: Covington, Kennesaw, Savannah

New Jersey: Bayonne, Mahwah

Importance of Winter Baseball Training

Training during any off season is important, but the winter before an upcoming baseball season should not be wasted. According to Al Woods, Click here to view the eBook, the winter should be used for development. Winter is a time for players to learn skills and fundamentals that they can use in the spring season. U.S. Baseball Academy is the nation’s largest network of baseball camps, with more than 220 locations in 42 states. Since 1988, we have provided top-quality baseball instruction at an affordable price to more than 100,000 players.

This is not a lecture clinic. With a low player-coach ratio, each hitter, pitcher and catcher gets individual attention in a small-group atmosphere for one hour per week. We maintain a ratio of five players per professionally trained coach.

With numerous age-specific sessions for grades 1 through 12, instruction is specially tailored for each ability level. This is the kind of intense, results-oriented professional baseball instruction that provides a foundation for the coming season and beyond.
