Instructional Baseball Camp comes to Chula Vista

November 3, 2014 -- Chula Vista, CA. Baseball is something that quickly comes to mind when you think of San Diego. There are several different levels of baseball being played in the city, as well as some of the outlying areas, such as Chula Vista.

The San Diego Padres have been around since 1969 and have had many greats play for the franchise.  Names such as Tony Gwynn and Dave Winfield come to mind when you think about some of the great players to play in San Diego.  Although San Diego has yet to win a World Series, they did make it to the finals in 1998, losing to the late 90’s powerhouse, New York Yankees in 4 games.

There is a strong college baseball foundation in San Diego.  San Diego State and the University of San Diego are competitive year in and year out in the area. The San Diego City College baseball program has hosted our winter baseball camp for several years and continues to grow in popularity.

Youth baseball teams from the San Diego area are no stranger to winning on a national level. In recent years, teams from Chula Vista have either claimed the Little League World Series or made it to the Little League finals in Williamsport.

It is clear though, that you can’t have a strong foundation of baseball talent and fundamentals without instruction, and Olympian High School in Chula Vista is aiming to help that cause. Olympian High School is hoping to continue growing baseball talent at the youth level by offering an instructional camp, run in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.

U.S. Baseball Academy runs several hundred camps nationwide, and has several new locations opening in 2015. Olympian High School is just one of those new locations. See the new locations by state list below to see if there is a camp opening near you!

The Academy in Westminster, CO set to host instructional baseball camp

October 13, 2014 -- Westminster, CO has a strong baseball foundation. That foundation starts at the youth level, and Westminster has above average youth programs. There are little leagues and travel teams, all showing dedication to America’s Pastime. Furthermore, Westminster has several youth facilities that can only add to the excitement for young players to get out onto the field and play baseball. The Christopher and Tepper Fields facilities are two fields worth noting in the area.

Furthermore, the Colorado Rockies play a short distance from Westminster at Coors Field. The Rockies are a strong organization in a great sports city. With such a strong foundation of youth leagues, and having a prominent Major League team, there is not a question that there is also some strong baseball being played at the high school level.

The Academy is a school with a strong baseball tradition. Most recently, the baseball program made a run at the state tournament. However, even though it is not the time for their season, the head coach has decided to give back to the area by training some of the youth players in the area.

The Academy is set to host a four week baseball camp this winter. This camp is run in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy and features sessions in: hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, and baserunning. Lee Hanger, head coach of The Academy, will direct the program with some of the top coaches in the area.

However, The Academy is not the only new site hosting a camp in 2015. Check out all of the new locations below and find the camp closest to you!

Germantown to host Instructional Baseball Camp

October 6, 2014, Memphis, TN -- Some people see Tennessee as a football state, and others see Memphis as a basketball city with the Grizzlies. However, baseball is still prominent in Memphis. The Memphis Redbirds hold the title for the professional baseball team in the city. The Redbirds are the triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, and have had recent success. Memphis made the playoffs in the 2014 season and looks to be strong again in 2015. But what about baseball outside of the professional ranks, is it prominent in the Memphis area?

Moving down one level, the Memphis Tigers are a strong baseball program. The Tigers finished with a 30-29 record in 2014, and just like the Redbirds appear to have potential for another strong season. Furthermore, the Memphis program aids in developing youth talent. The university allows travel tournaments to be hosted at their baseball facility each summer, which brings some of the best talent from around the country to the area.

Again, there is even more to baseball in the Memphis area. There are numerous little leagues in the area that help to build a strong baseball foundation at the youth level. However, Germantown High School is helping to develop youth talent in another way.

Germantown High School is hosting a six week instructional baseball camp this winter. This camp, run in conjunction with the U.S. Baseball Academy, will offer sessions in: hitting, pitching, catching, fielding, and baserunning.

However, Germantown High School is not hosting the only camp that will be taking place this winter. U.S. Baseball Academy currently has 235 camps nationwide. The camp in Germantown is just one of the many new sites. Check the list below to see if there is a new location opening near you:

New Instructional Baseball Camp Comes to Dallas

September 30, 2014, Dallas, TX -- Texas has always been known for its rich football tradition. However, baseball may be in the process of taking over. Dallas, for example has an extremely rich baseball tradition. Some of this tradition has even been developed recently. Arlington is a short drive from Dallas, taking maybe half an hour, but holds one of Major League Baseball’s more recent successful teams. The Texas Rangers were American League Champions back to back years in 2010 and 2011 before falling in the World Series. It is never easy to win at that level consecutive years, but the Rangers were able to do so.

The Rangers are only the first sign of baseball prominence in the Dallas area. Dallas is the host to many youth leagues and tournaments that bring some of the best talent in the country to the area. Furthermore, Dallas area high schools were a facet in the state baseball tournament this past year. It is plain to see that Dallas is as rich in talented players of America’s Pastime as they are in talented young football players.

Woodrow Wilson High School has had some recent success with their baseball program. Coming off of a season with a winning record, and a stellar record within their district, coach Brett Ray looks to improve not only his players, but other young players in the area.

Ray is the director of an instructional baseball camp being held at Woodrow Wilson in January of 2015. This camp is part of a nationwide program with the US Baseball Academy. The camp allows players grades K-12 to participate in skills such as: Hitting, Pitching, Fielding, and Baserunning. As mentioned, the US Baseball Academy runs instructional camps nationwide, and will have 234 camps operating in 2015. Woodrow Wilson is not the only new location. See these other new locations to see if a new camp is coming to your location:

California: Antioch, Bakersfield, Chula Vista, Rio Linda, Woodland Hills
