September 30, 2014, Dallas, TX -- Texas has always been known for its rich football tradition. However, baseball may be in the process of taking over. Dallas, for example has an extremely rich baseball tradition. Some of this tradition has even been developed recently. Arlington is a short drive from Dallas, taking maybe half an hour, but holds one of Major League Baseball’s more recent successful teams. The Texas Rangers were American League Champions back to back years in 2010 and 2011 before falling in the World Series. It is never easy to win at that level consecutive years, but the Rangers were able to do so.
The Rangers are only the first sign of baseball prominence in the Dallas area. Dallas is the host to many youth leagues and tournaments that bring some of the best talent in the country to the area. Furthermore, Dallas area high schools were a facet in the state baseball tournament this past year. It is plain to see that Dallas is as rich in talented players of America’s Pastime as they are in talented young football players.
Woodrow Wilson High School has had some recent success with their baseball program. Coming off of a season with a winning record, and a stellar record within their district, coach Brett Ray looks to improve not only his players, but other young players in the area.
Ray is the director of an instructional baseball camp being held at Woodrow Wilson in January of 2015. This camp is part of a nationwide program with the US Baseball Academy. The camp allows players grades K-12 to participate in skills such as: Hitting, Pitching, Fielding, and Baserunning. As mentioned, the US Baseball Academy runs instructional camps nationwide, and will have 234 camps operating in 2015. Woodrow Wilson is not the only new location.
